Bingo!
Fridays, September 3 and September 17
1:00 – 2:30 pm
Cost:  $1 for non-members.  $0.25 per card/per game
Come join the Bingo fun at BASCC.  Eight games of regular bingo (horizontal, vertical, diagonal, four corners) are played, plus to "cover all" games.  Cost:

      1 card = $2
      2 cards = $4

      3 cards = $6
      4 cards = $8, etc.

 

Spelling Practice

Afraid of Falling?
Wednesdays – September 8 – October 13
10:00 – 11:00 am
Instructor:  Sharon Claye
Cost:  $60/six weeks, plus $18 materials fee for the book How to Prevent Falls:  Better Balance, Independence and Energy in Six Simple Steps
Participants will learn to prevent falls, reduce the fear of falling and decrease resulting injuries.  Activities are easily integrated into daily living.  You will increase your self-confidence and improve your balance.  Claye is an A.C.E. certified personal trainer and post rehab conditioning specialist.  She is trained in the Six-Step Balance System™.

BASCC Open House

Come to BASCC and learn about the exercise and personal enrichment programs scheduled for the fall.  Exercise demonstrations held throughout the morning.  Meet our program facilitators.  Cider, donuts and door prizes compliments of Mills Pharmacy and Apothecary.

 

Health Care Reform Law

Learn about the new law during a free and open to the pubic presentation.  Panelists will explain major provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that will affect adults with Medicare coverage, some of which will take effect as soon as September 23.  For more information on the event, please contact Sandy Burgess at 248-680-0773

 

Resistance Band Workout Class

Tuesdays, September 14-November 2 – 1:30 pm

Cost:  $79/eight weeks

Using resistance bands to strengthen and tone, this class can be done either  seated or standing.  Pre-registration required by September 13.  Minimum of seven participants needed for the class.

 

Art History – Russian History
Tuesday, September 21 – 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Cost:  $6 - in advance
Come meet Peter the Great.  Join HistoryTeller, Maureen Esther as she brings this giant of Russian history alive.  Pre-registration and payment due by September 10.  A minimum of 15 participants is required for the lecture to take place.

 

Beginning Mah Jongg Class

Art Tour

Monday, September 27 - 12:30 pm

Cost:  $10

Tour the studio of Julie Dawson, Birmingham watercolor artist, photographer and writer.  The 2 ½ hour program includes a tour of her studio and home, a demonstration of watercolor painting, and a walk through her gardens.  BASCC provides the transportation.  Prepayment and pre-registration required by September 20.  Depart BASCC at 12:30 pm, return 4:00 pm.

BASCC Senior Spelling Duel
Friday, October 1 – 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Did you practice?  Are you ready for the annual BASCC Senior Spelling Duel?  The top three spellers will represent BASCC at the Oakland County Duel.

 

Ballroom Dancing

Tuesdays, October 5-November 2 – 12:30 pm

Cost:  $40/four weeks

Learn to “dance like the stars” with Glenn Clark of Stardust Ballroom.  No partner is required to participate.  Pre-register and pre-pay by September 28.

 

Chinese Mah Jongg

Tuesdays, October 5-19 – 10:00 am

Cost:  $10

This special set of inscribed tiles is played with three to four participants.  Handouts containing rules are provided and discussed.


TIA Mature Driver Workshop
Wednesday-Friday, October 6-8 – 10:00 am – 2:30 pm
Cost:  $20 (includes lunch)
The Traffic Improvement Association sponsors this workshop.  The goal of this 2½ day workshop is to improve driving strategies.  Completion of the class may qualify you for a premium discount.  Check with your insurance agent.  Register and pay no later than Thursday, September 30.  Payment is by check only made payable to Traffic Improvement Association.

 

Senior Expo and Flu Immunization Clinic
Tuesday, October 12 – 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Cost: $30 ~ Free for those with Medicare Part B
 
Metro Home Health Care Plan nurses administer the flu shots.  The H1N1 vaccine is included in the seasonal vaccine.  Medicare HAP Senior Plus, Blue Care Network and Humana clients must send in the invoice for reimbursement.   Payment is by cash or check only.  Make checks payable to Metro Home Health Care Plan.  You must have your insurance card with you in order to receive the vaccine.  

 

The expo offers seniors ways to maintain healthy and independent lifestyles.  Information about senior housing, home care agencies, products and services for seniors, home maintenance, insurance options, and more will be available.

Monster Shredder Returns
Wednesday, October 20 – 10:00 – 11:00 am

The Monster Shredder returns!  Absolute Shreds of Auburn Hills will shred your personal documents free-of-charge in the west parking lot.  This service is for private individuals only, no businesses.  Each person is allowed to bring 4-5 bags or boxes of paper.

 

Oakland County Senior Spelling Duel

Friday, October 22 – 10:00 am

Cost:  Free

This annual event is hosted at the BASCC senior center, 2121 Midvale Street, Birmingham.  The top three spellers from senior centers in northwest Oakland County compete to determine who will be the best!  Refreshments served.  Contact your local senior center for details about participating.

 

BASCC 3rd Annual Rummage Sale

Saturday, October 30 – 9:00 am-3:00 pm

Cost:  Early entry at 8:00 am - $2

Mark your calendar for this annual event at BASCC.  Donation drop off days are Thursday, October 28, 3:00-7:00 pm and Friday, October 29, 10:00 am-6:00 pm.  Donated items are tax deductible.  Half off sale begins at noon, bag sale ($5/bag) at 1:30 pm.  All unsold items are donated to local charities.  Proceeds from the sale benefit BASCC programs and services.  For more information, contact Sandy Debicki at 248-540-9115 or BASCC at 248-203-5270.
